BIG YEAR BIRDING WITH PAUL DOUGLAS BIRDOCRATS

Enjoy waterfowl, herons, and grassland birds as we explore this large preserve. These workday morning trips are structured so that you can leave after an hour if you like, or stay for two. BUSSE WOODS SOUTH BIRD WALK, ARLINGTON HEIGHTS

Location:
Meet at the parking lot of the Boat House at the far end of the Busse Woods Boating Center entrance. The entrance is just west of the new bridge over Higgins Road, and just east of I-290/IL 53.

We'll be searching for sparrows, late migrant waterfowl, and early warblers. Wear hiking boots (we'll be walking on paved and unpaved paths), bring binoculars. The walk will last about 2 hours. BIG BEND BIRD WALK

LAKE FOREST PRESERVE, DES PLAINES

Meet at the picnic shelter on the right/north, after you enter the preserve. Entrance is on East River Road, between Golf Road and Ballard Road in Des Plaines. We'll be searching for sparrows, late migrant waterfowl, early warblers and year round resident birds. Wear hiking boots (trails can be wet) and bring binoculars. The first half of the trip will be around the lake and Des Plaines River, and the second half we'll be walking in the woods and on the bicycle path.

Meet at the Forest Preserve Parking Lot north of Willow Road, just east of the Edens Expressway in Winnetka.

The Walk will last about two hours, but because this walk is on a weekday, join us for as long as you can and leave early if you need to get to work.  Chicago Audubon's Annual Members Meeting

Membership Will Be Voting for Election of Officers and Directors 

Chicago Audubon Members need to be present to vote on Officers and Directors at this important meeting. After the election, the evening's program, Bird Studies in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, will be presented by Dr. Ben Marks, Collection Manager of the Bird Collection at Field Museum. The Democratic Republic of the Congo is far off the beaten tourist track, with some of the highest, most beautiful mountains in Africa and some of the most extensive lowland rainforest left on Earth, stretching from the Uganda border to the Atlantic Ocean. Ben has made multiple trips to this intriguing country and will share some of his experiences with the birds, the landscapes and the people.

For those who wish to renew their membership or to join as a new member any time before the meeting so that you may cast a vote, you may do so by clicking on the box to the right of this article (near the top), or by calling the Chicago Audubon office (773-539-6793). If you prefer to send in a check to join or to renew, there is still time to do so. Minimum annual membership (or renewal) is $25. Please send the check to Chicago Audubon, 5801-C North Pulaski Road, Chicago, Illinois 60646. The meeting will be held at North Park Village Nature Center, Building D, 5801 N. Pulaski Road. You may also renew or join when you arrive for the meeting. For directions or any questions, call Chicago Audubon office. You may bring family and friends to enjoy the evening's program. Remember, socializing at 7:00 p.m., followed by the Meeting at 7:30 p.m. and then the Program.
